Case studies

Our first client is ourselves.

We launch this brand without a borrowed logo wall – and with something better: our own media portal where AI has been running productively for years. Here we show honestly what we do there, what it delivers, and what we learned.

Case study

AI in our own portal: six-figure reach as a working lab.

Starting point

happycolorz GmbH runs its own content portal in the family segment with 500,000+ monthly users: SEO-driven publishing, a shop with personalised products and a community with 200+ reviews. A small team, high content throughput, real competitive pressure in search results – the same economics your newsroom works in.

Challenge

More quality and more output without more headcount: speed up research, relieve editing, tag content consistently, and keep it findable for search engines and answer engines alike – without texts sounding machine-made or errors slipping through.

AI solutions in use

  • AI-supported research and structuring aids for new articles
  • Editing support with in-house style and quality rules
  • Automated tagging and internal linking suggestions
  • SEO workflows: headline variants, snippet optimisation, content audits
  • Automated pre-publication quality checks – approval stays human

Measurable results

  • Six-figure monthly reach, built and sustained organically
  • Considerably shorter lead time from idea to published article
  • Own survey with 2,000+ participants as a data basis for content and PR
  • Press pickup via Presseportal/dpa, including coverage by Merkur.de

We share concrete metrics for individual workflows in conversation – backed by analytics, not marketing rounding.

What we learned

Adoption beats model choice. The best workflow fails if it runs alongside daily newsroom work. AI must live where the work happens – in the CMS, not in the fifteenth browser tab.

Quality rules belong in the pipeline. Style guides, fact checks and blocklists work reliably when enforced automatically – not when they sit in a PDF.

Cost is a design decision. Model choice, caching and batching decide over a factor of ten on the monthly bill. That is why we build cost monitoring in from the start.

What your project could look like

Three sample projects – clearly labelled as such.

The following scenarios are illustrative: not real client projects, but realistic project shapes as we would typically set them up with companies your size. Expect exactly this transparency in the collaboration itself.

Sample project · illustrative

Newsroom assistant for a regional publisher

Scenario: A local newsroom of 25 wants to turn police reports, club news and press releases into publishable drafts faster.

Approach: Four-week pilot with RAG on the in-house archive, style rules per desk, mandatory editing stage. Integrated into the existing editorial system instead of adding a new tool.

Target picture: Realistic goal: 10–20 minutes saved per routine item, measured over four weeks – and a solid basis for the rollout decision.

Archive indexing for a specialist publisher

Scenario: Decades of trade articles sit in three systems, barely tagged. Search finds nothing; the licensing business wastes potential.

Approach: Automated tagging and entity extraction across the full inventory, quality sampling by the documentation team, semantic search as the first visible product.

Target picture: Realistic goal: four-digit numbers of assets indexed per week, measurably better findability, a foundation for topic pages and syndication.

Sample project · illustrative

Newsletter personalization for a publisher

Scenario: A daily newsletter to 80,000 recipients with average open rates – and no personalization at all.

Approach: Interest profiles from click behaviour (GDPR-compliant, no third-party tracking), personalised sections instead of full personalization, A/B operation against the existing edition.

Target picture: Realistic goal: significantly higher click-through in personalised sections and a clean foundation for subscription propensity models.

Track record

Experience that predates this brand.

Behind the offering stands the team of happycolorz GmbH: more than a decade of experience in digital publishing, SEO and product development, complemented by data engineering and software projects from earlier roles. The portal is not a side project but our daily proof that we can think reach, newsroom and technology together.

As soon as the first client projects are completed, you will find classic case studies with numbers and quotes here – we do not present anonymised phantom references.

The low-risk entry

Start with a 4-week pilot.

One clearly scoped use case, real content from your company, measurable acceptance criteria – and after four weeks an honest recommendation: scale, adjust or stop. That is how your company becomes our first named reference, with both sides knowing what they signed up for.

  • Fixed price, fixed timeframe, defined deliverables
  • Your newsroom tests from week two
  • Results review with a decision template for your boards
